Title Research: Thriller

We chose the film 30 Days of Night to use as a sequence for this blog which is from the website ( https://www.watchthetitles.com/ )

1.      What titles are displayed during the opening sequences?

The titles that were displayed during this scene include the names of the director, the writers, producers, production designers, editors, and the actors. This is basically what is shown in all movies during the opening sequence.

2.      What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?

The images in the opening scene were very disturbing. The images either fade into darkness or they dissolve out.

3.      What connotations do these images carry?

The images give off a negative connotation. The negative connotation comes from the disturbing feeling the images give off. It is like a chilling feeling as you see them.

4.      How does the film establish a feeling of the genre from the outset?

The film establishes the genre by using different elements. First off, it starts off with the eerie music which you can already tell the genre. These types of music mostly come in horror or thriller films. Then it goes into showing ice which gives you a feeling of where it takes place or the setting. This is most likely in a cold place where there is a lot of snow and ice. Then it starts to show burnt and torn images along with the background music which gives off a feeling that something must have happened.

5.      What strategies are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience?

The designers used a strategy of working in the night to help with producing an unsettling sequence. They also used different situations in the pictures. Many people like gory films so they would be excited about seeing blood. This is what a lot of the pictures have. The pictures also give off a hint that the movie is about vampires showing different shots of people with fangs.

6.      How has technology been used effectively? You want to consider camera angles, transitions, and editing techniques.

The editing techniques of fading and dissolving are used as the pictures come and go one by one. There are really no angles at the start because it is basically just an intro of pictures.
