Title Research: Thriller

We chose the film Panic Room.  It was released March 29,2002 and directed by David Fincher. I chose the movie from (artofthetitle.com).

1.      What titles are displayed during the opening sequences?

Titles displayed throughout the opening sequence is the name of the actors themselves. It also shows the name of the studio and production company. It gives us the name of the producers, directors, writers, designers, etc.

2.      What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?

Images prioritized throughout the opening sequence are buildings from the outside in New York City. It shows from the side of buildings and houses. It also shows the city with cars from high buildings.

3.      What connotations do these images carry?

The connotations of these images are very positive. It shows us the beautiful city of that New York has to offer. It shows the tall buildings and the outside of where people hang out during daily life.

4.      How does the film establish a feeling of the genre from the outset?

From the beginning it automatically gives us the set background music to go with the genre. The music is very suspenseful and though it only shows us titles the music plays a huge role. Thriller movies give us the suspense to keep us attached to this film from the very beginning.

5.      What strategies are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience?

The used strategies of having a location known to the audience. They used big words and fonts to appeal and catch the viewers' eyes. They used suspenseful music in order to keep the thriller vibe from the beginning of the film.

6.      How has technology been used effectively?

You want to consider the editing techniques used as there are only titles and not actual scenes. The editors used technology from other things such as drones to capture the different angles and views of the buildings captured. They typed the words and made sure they changed the fonts in order to give the effect wanted.
