Genre Research: Horror

The PowerPoint project included researching a genre that I was interested in. It was also about informing people on the aspects of the genre. The first thing I did was choose a genre which was horror then researched the common conventions in horror films. When researching I had to go to different websites to try to find the specific information. I started off with the lighting which included under lighting, low key lighting, and top lighting. Common angles which include close-ups and tilted angle. Common movements in horror films include handheld cameras and tracking shots. Common Mis-En-Scenes include dark lighting, rural settings, creepy costumes, and scary makeup. Elements in horror films that make it scary include the atmosphere, element of surprise, backstory, and proper music. Examples of films of the horror genre include It, The Shining, and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. Common sounds include screaming, feasting, and monster noises. Elements I like about horror films include backstory and the sequels because it gives the film edge. Elements I Do Not Like include the element of surprise and the music because it makes the film uneasy.
